The Art of Montage I Short films by Bruce Conner WSU ShiftSpace, 416 S. Commerce St. Recognized as one of the leaders of New American Cinema in the 1960s, Bruce Conner transformed the discards of pop culture - from B-movie clips to newsreel and television footage - into an art form that paved the way to the music video. Conner’s films, as with his art, are politically charged, humorous, melancholic, and unsettlingly beautiful. 75-minute program including The Movie, Valse Triste, Marilyn Times Five, The White Rose, and more. Crossroads A Film by Bruce Conner The Orpheum, 200 N. Broadway Bruce Conner’s landmark 35 mm film from 1976, in which he combined repeated slow-motion images from National Archives footage of the first underwater hydrogen bomb test conducted on Bikini Atoll on July 25, 1946, with a dual score by Patrick Gleeson and Terry Riley.
